Uganda’s Laboratories Shine: NHLDS Leads the Way in Accreditation!
The National Health Laboratory and Diagnostic Services (NHLDS) reference Laboratories and labs nationwide have undergone rigorous reassessments to uphold their accreditations over the past 3 months from September 2024 to date.

At the same time, NHLDS reference Laboratories and facilities across the country were evaluated by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS).
Achievements:
79 laboratories are accredited across Uganda!
68 laboratories are accredited by SANAS.
80 laboratories are certified under the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM).
17 laboratories proudly hold 4-star certification since 2018.

Dr. Isaac Ssewanyana, NHLDS Laboratory Director, celebrated this milestone and commended the team for their dedication:
“Congratulations, team, for maintaining the accreditation! It was a very rigorous reassessment. The volume of documents and records that occupied both boardrooms for two days speaks of a mature and living QMS. I congratulate you once again for expanding the scope from 25 to 28, covering tests in the genomics lab. Next year, I look forward to the addition of the malaria and nutrition lab scope as we expand our specialized capacity to meet the national public health need and occupy our space as the National Reference Laboratory.” Dr. Isaac posted to the team.
This achievement not only highlights the hard work of Uganda’s lab teams but also underscores NHLDS’s commitment to advancing public health through world-class diagnostics and services in Uganda.
