CPHL hosts UNITAID Point of Care (POC) Stakeholders Meeting

CPHL was privileged to receive a delegation from UNITAID on 02nd April 2014 that had paid a courtesy call to the DG and to a few selected facilities. This call was done before the POC stakeholders meeting organized at Sheraton Hotel and attracted over 57 stakeholders from CHAI, UNICEF, MOH, DHO, IPs, CDC, MSF, UNITAID among others. The meeting that was funded by UNICEF was opened by Mr. Gaspard Guma franked by Mr. Nyegenye Wilson and Mr. Kiyaga Charles.

It aimed at sharing UNITAID approach in the implementation of POC in countries they support; share countries experiences, successes, challenges, and future vision of POC implementation; and contribute to a presentation on POC viral load evaluation by MSF in Arua. UNITAID based in GENEVA and hosted by WHO acquires its finances from a levy on air tickets and the approach is to use innovative financing of buy-side market leverage to make greater access to treatment and diagnostics.

Among the many resolutions made was to establish a TWG on POC to implement POC roll out and strengthen policy on evaluation and approval processes of POC in the country. Closing remarks were made by UNICEF representative in SA.
