AMR NATIONAL ACTION PLAN STAKEHOLDERS' MEETING

The UNAS in collaboration with UNHLS of MOH, organised the first stakeholders meeting on the draft National Action Plan for AMR to review policy statements on key focus areas of the draft plan.

REVIEW BY AREA OF FOCUS

Moderator: Mr. Steven Aisu, Head CPHL

Although AMR(Anti-microbial Resistance) cannot be eradicated, it can be reasonably slowed down and contained. The Ugandan government is confident that the National Action Plan(NAP) will help respond to the threats of AMR.

The plan exploited the respective strengths of the public sector, the private sector, civil society, academia and research partners. Stakeholders formed groups that reviewed areas of focus and they included;

Focus Area 1: Public Awareness

                  Chaired by Dr. Issa Makumbi of MOH EOC

Focus Area 2: Infection Prevention and Control

                  Chaired by Dr. Henry Kajumbula with a team of WHO focal persons

Focus Area 3: Antimicrobial Stewardship and Rational use

                  Composed of UHSC members from the department of Appropriate medicine use and WHO consultant Dr. Joseph Mwoga

Focus Area 4: Surveillance

                  Chaired by Mr. Walwemwa Richard

Focus Area 5: Research and Innovation

                  Chaired by Dr. Andrew Kambugu of IDI(Infectious Disease Institute)
