A visit that commenced with a brief meeting was chaired by the PS Dr Diana Atwiine who was so honored to announce to the nation another great milestone achievement registered by our health laboratory sub-sector. The International Accreditation of the Early Infant HIV Diagnosis (EID) and Viral load testing Laboratory at National Health Services in Butabika. This facility which tests specimens from all districts in Uganda has been accredited by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) for the next four years from 2nd Feb 2017 till 1st Feb 2021.

We received two stool samples towards weekend from Panyimur HC III and another 2 came later from Parombo HC III (all from Nebbi district). All samples do not have pathogens ie 'No Pathogens Isolated" as summarized below. The Facilities have been notified through the Nebbi DLFP Mr Odongo Richard.

We are grateful for all services provided by health centers (Crown Health Care, Makerere University Medical School OBS/GYN Dept Mulago, China friendship Hospital Naguru, Rubaga Hospital, Kampala Medical Chambers, Kampala West Clinic-Rubaga, Pearl Medical Centre Kansanga, Naguru Teenage Centre, Kibuli Hospital, Pearl Medical Centre, Microhaem Systems Limited and Family Comfort), Pauma Productions for the entertainment and the meals. With the overwhelming numbers, it was a pleasure having women and adolescent girls offered free services on such a great day

A meeting held at UNHLS for hubs in karamoja region that discussed sample transport and pathology service provision challenges faced. Commitment/action plan for service, fuel and safety of new and old motorbikes were discussed and the way forward.

UMLTA is an Association of all Medical Laboratory Professionals working in both Public and Private sectors of Uganda with a main objective of promoting and maintaining high standards of professionalism and excellence in Medical Laboratory Service delivery in Uganda.
UMLTA in collaboration with UNHLS/CPHL , Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC) supported by African Society of Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) will be implementing a Continuous Professional Development(CPD) program which is aimed at enabling Laboratory professionals acquire new knowledge and skills and improve their competency thus improving quality of Laboratory services in the country .
A stakeholders meeting was organized for all stakeholders on 28/02/2017 to review the training materials and content to be used in the training and participate fully in paving a way on how to implement CPD in the country for the Medical Laboratory CPD/CME implementation in Uganda.

Laboratory SPARS (Supervision, performance, Assessment, Recognition and Strategy) is a complementary module to the SLMTA training package, specifically tailored to strengthen laboratory logistics. The SPARS approach is a multi-pronged intervention that employs four strategies: educational, managerial, regulatory and financial strategies coupled with performance assessment. Laboratory SPARS is designed to improve laboratory supplies management with emphasis on Stock Management; Storage Management; Ordering, Receipt and Recording; Laboratory Information Systems and Laboratory Equipment, in health facilities across the country.
